Why music makes better marketing

As I sit and enjoy a concert at The Gear in Franklin, IN watching something like 6 bands of both good and bad, I think of what lead to the inception of redwall LIVE. As I’m waiting for my good friends in Spoken (www.spokenmusic.com) I’m remembering the days that I performed for small and large crowds and if we connected with the crowd we gained loyal fans – even some that still follow today.

Music moves people, music changes lives, music is part of a lifestyle – music must be experienced (Thanks to @Hazewalker for getting this right away). So to pursue success in music you have to create that experience time and time again for anyone to respond. You cannot get people to come to concerts or buy CDs unless they see the passion that the artist has for their music. Then someone has to spread that passion to the next person who spreads it to someone who then spreads it to someone else and so on and so on. That experience and connection makes the difference.

See, in this day and age commodities are all too common. Only the passion you have that connects with someone personally differentiates you from every other brand in your same industry. Imagine an ad in the phone book that said “Quality rock band, great rates, we take visa…”. It’s the last thing you would do. Such is becoming the rest of the world of marketing. We have so many options and so many ways to hear about them. How will you reach your potential audience if that’s all they are – a potential audience… with no connection. How do you CONNECT with your audience?
