The Price is Right – is it Experiential Marketing?
We think it is…
I like the show, I’ll admit not nearly as much since Bob Barker retired. Although he seemed like a bitter old crusty man, he was just what you expected to see. What I enjoy most about The Price is Right is that when I watch the show I get excited rooting for people to get the big prize as they guess prices on everything from brand name dish soap to cars. At the same time I make fun of people because of how ridiculously excited they get. I don’t generally see adults jump that much in real life.
I recently had a few friends that packed up and went out to California to be in the audience. They took time off work and got baby sitters for their kids so that they could get in that audience… and wouldn’t you know it, one of them ended up on the show, and won a new car among other things! She’s told many of her friends the story of how she won that Brand Name Vehicle on the price is right.
You see that was an experience that people will go out of their way to be a part of. Sometimes the best experience that includes your brand is just where it belongs, not always overtly to pitch or explain your product but just to allow it into the picture.
